Duck hunting before dawn isn’t for everyone (and neither setting an alarm clock for the middle of the night). But for Darryl Moore, pre-dawn is the time of day he looks forward to most. That’s because sitting knee deep in a timber hole and waiting for his shot is without a doubt, his favorite thing in the world.“Something about convincing a wild animal to drop out of the sky, navigate through 50-foot oak trees, and land in a pocket of water fascinates me”, says Darryl. And since no two hunts are the same, the challenge of executing a perfect battle plan is what keeps him coming back for more—every single time.

We’re proud to call Darryl a YETI Ambassador. He shares our unwavering passion for the outdoors, and everything that comes with it.

Q:

What goes through your head, when you first wake up in the morning?

A:

Gratitude —and with that comes an effortless desire to get outdoors, work hard, grow, and just have fun. I always start the day off feeling grateful that God allows me to do what I enjoy.

Q:

Where’s your favorite place to hunt?

A:

On public land in Arkansas, sitting knee deep in a timber hole.

Q:

If there’s any love-hate relationship with an aspect of what you do, can you describe what that is?

A:

Oh, yeah. I hate 2:00AM alarm clocks and sleeping at the boat ramp in order to secure a duck hole. But when the plan comes together—there’s nothing I love more.

Q:

How do you up your game, year after year?

A:

Exploring more land, studying the animals, and learning to adapt under any circumstances. I’ve learned that paying attention to the small things throughout the season provides huge gains year to year.

Q:

What part of you, or what you do, reflects a spirit of restlessness?

A:

No two hunts are the same. There’s always something new to figure out, so I’m constantly learning, adjusting, and modifying. Perfection is the end game and I won’t rest until I have it perfected.

Q:

If you could do anything better, what would it be?

A:

Consistently being able to locate and predict migrating birds. I want to be on the X every time I go out.

Q:

Who are your heroes? And who do you look up to?

A:

One of my heroes who I also look up to is my Pawpaw Odell.

Q:

If you could bring anybody in the world (dead or alive) to hunt with you, who would it be?

A:

My Pawpaw Odell made sure to keep me involved in the outdoors. Our consistent time spent hunting, fishing, and making memories is why I believe I’ve remained so passionate about being an outdoorsman.

Q:

Tell us your favorite story from a day out hunting?

A:

After some pretty nasty weather, Ranar Moody and I went out to hunt. We didn’t expect a lot, but it ended up being one of our most memorable hunts thus far.

Q:

What haven’t you accomplished that you aspire to do in your lifetime?

A:

I aspire to study how the birds migrate from point A to point B. One day, I’d like to start in Canada and chase the migration of mallards all the way down to Arkansas.

Q:

What would be your day job, if you weren’t doing what you’re currently doing?

A:

Chasing Mallards from Canada to Arkansas. Is that considered a job?

Q:

I am happiest when...

A:

I’m hunting with great people.

Q:

What sound or noise do you love?

A:

The sound of mallards quacking (and branches breaking) as they are flying into a hole.

Q:

What does YETI mean to you?

A:

High-quality people and high-quality products with a high-quality mission. Because of these three things, YETI means a lot to me. The character I see in the brand is one that I’m proud to stand by.

Q:

How would you explain what YETI represents?

A:

Durability meets dependability.

Q:

What does it mean to be built for the wild?

A:

Withstanding anything and everything.

Q:

What’s the one YETI product that you can’t do without?

A:

My Rambler® Drinkware—I use it every single day.

Q:

Which other YETI products do you use?

A:

The Hopper® M30 Soft Cooler, LoadOut® GoBox™, and the Boonie Bucket Hat. They’re an exceptional brand with phenomenal quality, so everything from coolers and luggage to apparel and accessories.

Q:

How do you use the Hopper® M30 Soft Cooler in your market?

A:

I use it every time I go outside –when I’m on the boat during duck season, fishing bass tournaments in the spring, or mowing lawns in the summer. It’s my go-to cooler.

Q:

How do you use the Tundra® 45 Hard Cooler in your market?

A:

It helps me transfer meat across the state (and across the country). It’s the perfect size and I can count on it to keep my meat cold until I make it to my destination—no matter how far the distance.

Q:

What’s your one favorite aspect or feature of the Hopper® M30 Soft Cooler?

A:

The ultra-strong magnetic seal. I simply pull the magnets apart and it secures itself back closed. When I’m in a hurry, it’s so convenient to pop open, grab what Ineed, and not worry about zipping it back up.

Q:

How has the LoadOut® GoBox™ changed what you do, or how you do it?

A:

I can’t imagine hunting or fishing without them. During duck season, one’s rigged with my fishing tackle and another keeps my hunting accessories dry—everything I need is safe and organized in one space.

Q:

How have the Tundra® Hard Coolers changed what you do, or how you do it?

A:

They’ve allowed me to save tons of meat (with quality to spare) from point A to Point B.

Q:

What does the duck hunting mean to you?

A:

Hunting ducks in flooded timber is what drives me because it’s my favorite thing in the world. I learn something every single time I go out, but don’t think I’ll ever learn enough—and that’s the beauty of it.
